Hindon Construction is a certified ICF builder. Whether it’s a foundation only or a whole home or commercial building the advantages of an ICF construction are well documented.
- The Insulation Factor is significant. A code built wood framed structure with R24 insulation when tested results in performance rating of about R16 due to settling of insulation, minor gaps with installing batts, thermal bridging from the studs. By comparison ICF has a performance rating of R50.
- Comfort. Not only is ICF warmer due to the insulation performance, there are no drafts and there is far less noise transference.
- Cost. Everyone says ICF is way more expensive than a conventional foundation. This is simply not true when considering the overall project. The ICF wall also includes all the insulation (inside and out), waterproofing on exterior, vapour barrier on interior, strapping ready to receive exterior finish and interior drywall. Once these additional cost are factored in and added to the conventional foundation, costs are comparable.
- Structure. ICF is not susceptible to rot, insects or rodents. For security applications, intruders cannot break through (like block walls), cut through like metal siding)
